What are plant seed oils?
Seed oils are pressed from the seeds of various plants. In natural cosmetics they are one of the main ingredients because they are rich in fatty acids that the skin recognises and accepts well. In BulCanna creams, serums and balms we use them as a base that softens and nourishes.
Pressed from seeds, the oil keeps some of its natural substances. That is why it feels different from light mineral oils: livelier, more nourishing and with a light, plant-like scent.
What do they contain?
We most often mention two things for which these oils are in our recipes.
- Omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. They are part of the skin's natural fatty layer. When the skin is dry, that layer is thinner, and the oils help it feel softer and smoother.
- Vitamin E. An antioxidant found naturally in many seeds. In cosmetics it is used to protect oils from oxidation and to nourish the skin.
How do they feel on the skin?
Seed oils absorb quickly and do not leave a heavy, sticky film when used in the right formula. The skin feels soft, keeps more moisture and looks fresher. They show best on dry skin, especially in winter or after sun.
Apply the product to clean skin with gentle massaging movements. Most people start with evening care, because then there is time for it to absorb in peace.
Which BulCanna products contain them?
- in the Age Defying serum and face cream, for hydration and a more elastic look of the skin;
- in the balms we use for massage and for dry, irritated skin;
- in the Caring & Renewing lip balm, which softens dry lips.
The exact composition of each product is written in the “Composition” section of its page, as on the label. If your skin is very sensitive or you have a skin condition, ask your dermatologist before introducing a new product.
